ECC Ltd is chaired by Linda Mortimer-Pine, Deputy Director of Human Resources at the University of Leeds. Linda is supported by Vice-Chair Peter Mitchell, Director of Human Resources at the School of Oriental and African Studies and Company Secretary Geoff Foster, Deputy Director of HR at the University of Northumbria at Newcastle.

Our team comprises:
Margaret Dale, Chief Executive
Margaret has worked in public sector organisations for 30 years, 20 of which have been in Higher Education. Her expertise includes recruitment and selection, equal opportunities and staff, management and organisational development. She has worked on many significant organisational projects involving changes to role and working practices to bring about improved productivity, economy and effectiveness.
She has also acted as an employment expert assessing earning loss in personal injury cases, has been a Non-executive Director of two NHS boards, and is the author of eight books on recruitment, selection and development. She is a Trustee on the Board of the University of Huddersfield’s Students Union.
Margaret was actively involved in the development of HERA and the use of role analysis and has supported members individually and collectively to enable them to obtain best value from ECC’s services. Her specialist expertise lies in the use of competencies for role and organisational design, equal opportunities, recruitment and selection, and change management.
She is now responsible for leading the development and operation of ECC to ensure it continues to meet members’ needs as well as being actively involved in the provision of support to members.
Margaret is a Chartered Member of the CIPD, a Member of The Academy of Experts and the RSA. She holds an MSc in Decision Making, a DMS and is a qualified mediator.
Sandra Walton, Senior Consultant
Sandra worked initially in the private sector for 5 years as a qualified and practising food technologist, a technical manager and investigative analyst and consultant in research and development and quality control.
She has spent the last 21 years in the Higher Education sector developing her expertise in technical and administrative management including job evaluation and reviews, recruitment and selection of specialist staff, developing high performing teams for third income streams, performance management and team restructuring to meet organisational change.
Since joining ECC, Sandra has supported members with their use of HERA and is responsible for the development and delivery of ECC’s member services. She has been involved in projects with members developing their use of HERA and the ECC Toolkit to support organisational restructuring and transformation, senior staff reward, developing the competency framework, performance appraisal and continuing and professional development.
Sandra’s interest in promoting employee engagement and Equal Opportunities is evidenced by her work at a national level which includes membership of national advisory committees and project teams.
She is currently engaged on a Lifelong Learning UK project with the Higher Education and Technicians Education and Development initiative to deliver a national apprenticeship scheme for specialist technical staff.
Helen Bartolome, HR Consultant
Helen has worked in both the public and private sector and for the last five years in Higher Education. This included working as a Reward Officer in a member organisation using HERA to support the introduction of a new pay and grading structure.
She has extensive experience in training, management development, succession planning, and recruitment and selection gained in major companies. She also worked on the development of a competency framework for senior managers and has been part of a number of significant organisational change projects which have involved culture change and improving efficiency. She was Head of Senior Management Resourcing for a national employer and was responsible for defining the standards for the recruitment and development of graduates.
Since joining ECC, Helen has helped members complete the implementation of their pay and grading structures, and to extend their use of HERA, particularly to support recruitment. She worked on the project to map HERA to the AUA competency framework. She is also involved in the development and delivery of events and provides support services to members.
Helen is a fellow of the CIPD and holds an MSc in Management Development.
Nina Brannan, HR Consultant
Nina has worked in both the private and public sectors for over 30 years, the last 10 of which have been in further and higher education. Her experience is a mixture of operational HR and policy development and project work. This has given her a broad range of experience including the development of new pay and grade structures, recruitment and selection, performance management including development and implementing appraisal schemes, changing terms and conditions due to legislative changes or organisational change including mergers, and restructuring and redeployment.
Nina’s expertise lies in working with organisations to facilitate changes in practices across a broad spectrum of HR related fields, including all those offered by ECC. She is an experienced project manager and has experience of working with trade unions.
Since joining ECC she has provided support to members, helping them to complete their implementation of new pay and grading scales. She is now supporting them to develop their use of HERA for other HR functions and is involved with the development and delivery of ECC’s events.
Nina is a qualified primary teacher, has qualifications in psychometric testing and NLP and is a chartered member of the CIPD.
Craig Paterson, HR Consultant, Scotland and NI
Craig has over 20 years experience at a senior level gained in the public, private and education sectors, both as an employee and as an HR and management consultant. Craig has delivered many high profile projects which have made a significant impact to clients, including the award winning “William Wallaces Wanted” recruitment campaign for Scottish Enterprise.
He has demonstrable experience in all aspects of Human Resource Management. His particular strengths lie in recruitment and selection, psychometric testing, assessment centres, performance management, employee relations, trade union negotiation and redundancy management.
Craig was part of the pilot project that resulted in the development of FEDRA (Further Education Development and Role Analysis). He is now responsible for supporting members in their use of HERA and FEDRA and is involved with the development and delivery of ECC’s events
Craig is a non-executive director of two Scottish manufacturing organisations.
Craig has an honours degree in Personnel Management and Employee Relations from Strathclyde University and a Masters in Employment Law at Leicester University. He is a member of the CIPD.
